Climate Prayers - Week Three: Decision time in Copenhagen Climate Summit
Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams says:
“Climate change is not only an environmental issue – probably the most important we face – it is also an issue of justice. The poorest are likely to suffer most, though the richest have contributed most to pollute the atmosphere and accelerate global warming. Please pray for all whose efforts could make a real difference for the sustainability of our planet and we who live in it. It is God’s creation that we are striving to care for and as God’s children that we pray and act.”
* Pray for key nations to show moral leadership in the negotiations, in particular the USA, the EU, Australia, Japan, China, India and Brazil
* Pray key negotiators will keep an open mind to enable genuine discussions, and leaders will provide flexible authority to agree a righteous, strong and legally binding treaty
* Pray that churches all over the world will creatively express their support for action on a sustainable climate (in the UK many will ring their bells 350 times at 3 pm on 13 December)
* Pray for Archbishop Williams as he preaches in Copenhagen – that he will be inspired by the Holy Spirit
